Hi guys,

Bought one of these bad boys today, the instructions indicate to keep the soil moist at all times; is there anything else you guys would recommend to keep them healthy?

Also really wanna see the trap mechanism in action, but I wouldn't put anything living in there intentionally; not my thing.

They require a lot of light, and DISTILLED / Rain water for watering...

Since Tap water contains trace minerals etc which can actually kill these plants...

Try and get a small dish at tge bottom of the plant and place a bit if distilled water there so the plant wont dry out...

Also DO NOT fetalize these guys, they basically like nutrient free soil, coz they get their energy from feeding / photosysthesis...

Lastly, do not purposely trigger the traps, since they will die a lot quicker if contstantly spring...

They also need a dormant period during the winter usually if you want them to survive long term...

Also check out youtube for videos on how to feed your VFT bloodworms instead of using live bugs...

There are tons of carnivorous plant sites. I'd definitely check them out to see what others are doing to be successful with these curious plants.

Granted, just thought it bounce it to the lounge first :D

Good shout on the bloodworms Homer, I'm gonna check that out

Hello; I kept these plants and pitcher plants for a while. As already stated use distilled water. I kept mine in a glass tanks with a glass lid. The lid had only one opening and kept things humid. The pitcher plant survived many years.

convict360 convict360 I keep a few different Carnivorous plants myself, but still got a lot to learn... actually attempting my hands at VFT dormancy the first time this winter, so i guess in a month or two will see how they go, and whether they bounce back or not...

I tried a few bog carnivores before. I had some problems because my home central heat pump pulled all the humidity from the air. I bought an ultrasonic mist generator/atomizer to keep the humidity up in the terrarium. Worked like a champ. They're less than $10. They're available with 110v plugs, USB, and battery operated versions.
