But just out of curiousity...has anyone tried peat in an aquarium? Would it harm fish?

I mixed peat with sand for my 220 gal. Although it initially reduces hardness and pH, this effect soon wears off. Basically, I added it for looks. It gives sand a more natural appearance.

Cant get any info on them hardly anywhere, one site called them aquarium V.D. I'm sure they'll go on eBay or some where for school projects ect. My plant is growing like mad . In 2wks it must have increased by 10 X .
All the best,

I am a very big advocate of using peat in the planted aquarium it will not harm your fish but it will soften the water over a period of time as well as give it a brown tint. If your running a tank with hard water plants and your going to use peat make sure to watch.

i think that even if being totally submerged didnt kill it then the nitrates from your tank and the flourish would. carnivorous plants are adapted to deal with zero nitrates in their substrate, thus the digestion of bugs to obtain nitrogen. bladderwort is the only aquatic CP that im aware of.
