I just wanted to express how much i really like and enjoy my red devi / midas
I bought him from petsmart about four months ago.
Im feeding him container of worms (for fishing) a week
and frozen krill daily. and pre cooked shrimp (just one or two a day)
Ive got him in a 115 gallon alone.
At six months hes already developing a huge hump on his head.
for a 115 gallon do you think this is large enough to buy a female?
my lfs has two or three of them around 5inches long.
I would also love any input.
I also was wondering I keep my tank at a solid 83 degrees. I dont want
him to get hole in head or ich. Is this to warm?
pictures are older, he has since lost all of his black and is a solid dark orange
thank you

Kick back on the temp, 78-80. and the worms, very high in fat. "He" has a very nice head shape and will surely be a stunner in a tank that big. If you are going to add females do it ASAP so they can grow a little together. It's much harder to add one latter. Maybe a couple smaller cichlids like male or female convicts will work to distract him in aggression if it peaks. Just make sure you don't buy convict pairs as they can wreak havoc as well.

I don't know the dims of a 115 I've never seen one. The fish looks good and Pestmart RD/Midas are usually pretty nice fish. You could try a female woth him but have a back up plan if nessisary. What is that other fish in the tank? You could also drop the temp back to about 78-80 that 's warm enough. I would also suggest feeding a good pellet like NLS or Hakari bio-gold as the staple diet and use the worms and krill/shrimp as a treat.

Agreed. I have a 110 that I keep my Midas pair in, So I am sure the dims are similar. You can kick it back, but I keep mine grow out's tank at 82 to speed up growth. However with yours probly time to turn it down.

Where does it say earthworms are high in fat? They're a great "natural" food. Earthworms are pretty comparable to most other insects listed HERE and nightcrawlers (usually what they use for fishing) have a very high protein to fat ratio. And they both have many times more calcium than other invertebrates.

Earthworm 62.2% crude protein, 17.7% ether extract (crude fat)

Nightcrawler 60.7% crude protein, 4.4% ether extract (crude fat)

thank you, guys that pic had a portion of a female jaguar who are now seperated. He loves worms a lot he like tears them to pieces, hes actually already starting to become very aggressive. Ill probably just be adding one female for the time being. I was considering add my dovii male with him their about the same age, well see how aggressive they are with each other.

Here is a completely current pic, we named him sherbert. Im really considering putting my male dovii (blue), with him that is just a tad bit smaller. Hes actually pretty mellow, but for some reason hates my other dovii which i think is a female who is around the same size (all around 5-6 inches). What do you guys think about keeping these together for the time being not permanently. It is a 115?

Putting a Dovii in with him is a bad idea, you said the RD is already becoming aggresive and considers the thank his. Why risk damage or death to either fish. If the Dovii is slightly smaller than the RD the RD will most likly kill it at this point. Don't do it.

Agreed again. At this stage at around 6" they are starting to claim their territory. 115 seems big, but to them its already the size of an establised territory. Get another tank soon or put up a temporary divider. By the sounds of it you need to slow down abit and get more fishtanks off of craigs list.

what are the dimensions of a 115? but yeah i think a female would probably work, the sooner they are put together the better and i would definitely divide them at first since he is already showing aggression. and yeah earth worms are healthy, defintiely a lot healthier than some other insects but you should still just feed them as a side food to a staple diet of pellets, worms are a good source of protein and everything but fish need more variety in their diet to supply everything they need, just like in the wild they would be eating all different kinds of bugs and other fish which would supply all his needs, luckily we have pellets for this a no 1 bug is good as a staple since it doesnt supply all their dietary needs. also i would feed raw shrimp instead of cooked shrimp since the cooking process breaks down some of the nutrients in it and makes it harder to digest for them, and BTW he looks great he will be a real bruiser when he gets bigger

oh and putting in the dovii is def a bad idea, get that dovii a separate tank where he can be by himself or with just a girlfriend
