He's very friendly and like's to rub up against my hand when cleaning the tank and after I feed him..

But he has gotten to the point that he will jump one to three feet out of the water at feeding time, and my tank has no lid because of it's design, my only option would be to have an plastic lid custom made for the tank. So far I've had no luck in finding anyone to make one.

Also, I'm concerned my Oscar might injure him self if he jumps and hits the lid with his head.

Any ideas on how to prevent/train him not to jump?.. Or will it go away with age?

Youtube vid of my hyperactive albino jumping out.

Hmm... Well my closest Home Depot is an hour away, will any hardware store sell them?

you definitly need to get a lid. many oscars have met a early death from jumping out of the tank. mine has jumped out a few times this year alone. i had to hget velco for the lids and she can still get the lids open sometimes. thats not something he will grow out of. my advice is to be creative, or go with a diffrent fish. customs lids is worth not waking up one morning to a oscar on your carpet

hmm i think yea

Ive got nothing to add because I do not own an oscar, but that video was fricken amazing. At least you havent lost him due to that. Pretty cool trick though.

egg crate is good, but you may need to put something on top of it to hold it down; it is lightweight, and your oscar could conceivably jump hard enough to knock it loose

Neither of my local Lowes or Home Depot has eggcrate, i even asked for a ceiling light diffuser, the guy looked at me like i was speaking another language.

It's in the same Isle as the ceiling tiles, If you can find them you can find the egg crates.

To the OP you will never get a fish to stop jumping, and no he won't hurt himself hitting the lid on the tank. I've had Oscars in the past that would hit the lid to get my attention when I'd get home from work. One day I had a LARGE copper heatsink from my computer sitting on the lid and one of the Oscars I had kept hitting it until he knocked it off it was atleast a 3 lb heatsink too. Didn't harm him at all.
