Very red gills?

Very possible... My parents old coral from before I was born. Been in storage for 20 or so years. Another thought, they used to treat it with bleach. Killed 2 of their tanks before they realized it was bad. Think they then started using a diluted bleach solution and that worked fine. Wondering if there was still alittle soaked in that my hot water rinse didn't get and it wasn't enough to harm the fish but it killed important bacteria in the tank.

Very possible on the bleach part.
Few water changes should def help which sounds like you are already on top of. Let us know how the color and parameters go as you do the water changes.
Gorgeous coloring though, I hope it isn't because of the water. Hopefully he will stay that way!

Me too. Even more of a red flag before I did the change was my bleekeri was a gold-green color instead of his normal black. Happens when he's stressed so I knew something was off.

Tanks been set up over 6 months and I didn't change substrate, just added coral.

Any time a fish's color seems off or stressed for no apparent reason, check the water then check for any stray electrical current. Most times the issue will be found right there. My advice, remove the coral. Change the water 75% + use a de-clor at double dose (Prime or Safe) and add some Seachem Stability to help re-establish the BB. Do daily 25% water chances until the numbers return to normal. GL

Ya, I've been hearing too that apparently tanks "recycle" at the 6-8 month mark after first being set up.
