hi guys ,very sad day for me , i returned to work today after yet another bout of illness , i have really bad ibs which somedays means i can not be more than 5 foot away from a bog , anyway as part of the companys back to work procedures they had me in the office and told me that they are going to get rid of me , this mean i no longer have the luxury of keeping my loved Channa , and iam going to have to give them up ,

although i refuse to be left without my hobby Ive enjoyed for the last 20 odd years ,so i have decided to sell all my current stock and have a go at breeding instead, hopefully i will find some Channa to breed , but my problem is the hobby is now going to at least have to support itself , iam hoping that if i get enough tanks going with enough fish it may even bring in a little extra cash to help support myself , anyway enough rambling on , this is just a quick heads-up to all my buds on the Channa forum that my fish are for sale
and and suggestions of what i could breed to bring a bit of cash in would be very well appreciated , at my disposal at the moment i have the following which when the current stock has gone will all be empty

1 x 9ft x 2ft (willing to put dividers in if needed)
4 x 30" x 15"
1 x 2ft cube
1x 3ft cube
1 x 1ft cube

and iam trying to get as many other tanks as poss so what do you think would be woth breeding to bring in some cash

PS just ordered a group of Channa orientals

if you got a union get hold of them,i don't think they can get rid of you through illness....

Sorry to hear about your recent troubles, Col. I hope all works out well for you in the future my friend.

Hi tropheus
Sorry to hear that mate that truly Sucks!!:irked:

I'm pretty sure that If you've been there 2 yrs or more they cant legally do that to you with out numerous verbal then written warnings first!!

Get on to Citizens advise mate and see what they have to say.

I have 31 tanks running myself, all the food ,kit and new stock are paid for with Guppies and Bristlenose's plus the odd Cichlid brood here and there.
These are traded to the LFS's, I dont get hard cash but equally I dont have to shell any cash out to pursue my hobby(obsession).

Private deals generate a few quid here and there but I think its unrealistic to expect to make a living at it, well possibly if you had numerous breeding groups L046 or Discus and the space.

Guppies and BN's are bread and butter fish, nothing amazing but they ensure my only cash outlay is the Electric bill.

;)

Sorry bout your loss of your job Tropheus. loads of Channa about near me (manchester) and not stupid prices either, Bas had loads of pulchra and ornatipinnis the other day, give them a call, also try Pier, they started doing a good few now, they even had a C barca recently.Sure Dixon said one of the shops up near you use Bas for wholesale.:)

cheers guys , yep i am going to take legal advice , thanks Wayne just checked out the bas site and there ornates are £45 so looks like i will get some of them ordered , looks like they have a good selection in at the moment

freakdaddy thats exactly what i was looking for , if i can just make my hobby pay for its self then it can not become a burden when money gets low , i did have quite good success with breeding tropheus a few years back and they too where paying for the hobby but the bloody things are so touchy and got sick of loosing fish to bloat .

anyway busy installing tanks where ever i can fit them in the house , luckily i have been given plenty of notice iam loosing my job (upto 3 months) apparently they say this is so they can go through the necessary procedures ,

i must admit i do take a lot of time off work due to my illness ,i even suggested they do not pay me a penny when i am off ,so they have nothing to loose ,but they where not interested , i do feel a bit cheeted by them as i have worked there for 18 years and have become progressivly ill over the last couple of years ,it seems like the 18 years count for nothing , when i started there it was a small famley business where people cared about you and your famley , i have watched it get progressivly bigger over the years , now they have hr and all that rubbish , and no-one cares for any-one anymore

ahh well another rant over , back to setting up tanks , i will let you all know how i get on

cheers col

Hope everything works out for you,but they will try and bully you out of a job their logic is that you don't know the ins and outs of the system,i have been through something similar a few years back,i'm sure they have not got a leg to stand on.

no , a work for a ford dealer in stockton on tees , after speaking with citazens advice ,found there is a set proceedure they need to follow to get rid of me , if they dont follow it to the letter then i have a valid claim against them , and apparently this procedure takes approx 6+ months to compleate ,plenty of time to sort something else out , i think it is a case of they do not belive that i am really bad ,yet i have allready given them access to my doctors notes to prove otherwise , anyway balls in there court at the moment just waiting to see what happens next

cheers col
