Very sad day

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I purchased a very nice 8 inch female marbled motoro from someone on here and here is my story. I picked it up from the airport brought it home did the drip acclamation for about 2.5 hours. The ray looked like it was doing ok breathing was not to fast, and i swam around a little bit. I went to sleep got up early in the morning excited to check her out and she looked good then too. Went to work came home and she was DEAD. What i want to know from you guys is what could have caused this. I know what im doing i have had rays for years but nothing like this has happened before. Very sad day for me i have been looking for a marbled female like this for a while now and she is gone.
Maybe she got burnt, is your heater directly in the tank so the stingray could come into contact with it?

Rays are fragile...sorry for your loss!

guessing it wasn't heater burn due to the poster's experience with rays already. (could be, but doubting it)
my guess would have been the ammonia levels in the bag. when experiencing high ammonia levels like that, what's going to hurt it more? a quick drip or even straight transfer, or leaving it in the toxic bag longer than it really needs to be.

Sorry for your loss. Since your water checked out it would have to be stress from shipping. High ammonia obviously is not a great sign. Don't let this keep you from getting another.

I know everybody has their own methods that work for them but I am not a huge fan of long acclimation for that reason. I never really leave fish in a bag/box for more then 15-30 minutes as long as the temp and ph are close I figure they are much better off in the tank.

Sorry again for your loss don't let it keep you down

1+ don't believe in long acclimation either, especially after an over night shipment of fish. I feel my tank water parameters would be better once temp are close. thought it was just me with this believe.
Sorry for your loss, but don't give up!
