VERY SAD SUNDAY MORNING

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you said the ammonia huh? damn i hate this part of the hobby! so i guess what steps do i need to do proaquatics510, any suggestions? the ammonia was 0.0 though???????

I would be looking at the ammonia being so high, but pending on how long the fish had been dead for before removing and testing could answer some of that. It is possible one of the larger ones died and poisoned the tank killing the others.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the ammonia was at 0, but the nitrites where higher, was the wood treated or covered in anything? Plecos do eat wood as part of their diets..

Sorry

well my bro said he was up until 3:30 this morning and they were fine. then 6:30 this morning they were dead. the other thing i did do yesterday was put the new fixture i made with a single bulb florescent shop light. my bro said he didnt turn it off lastnight. could this have affected anything?

yeah the nitrates were high. but what would cause that? and what do i do to fix that? also the wood i got from the lake i caught the bluegill yesterday.

Nitrates are only adjusted by water changes, pending on how large and how often your water changes have been up to this point you need to work up to a few large water changes until the nitrates are back down around 10-20..

ok ill go ahead and do a full water change today. i did a 50% yesterday. last weekend and weekend before 10% changes. i think im about to remove the sand also and just go to bare bottom. dr.sudz do you think the new light fixture made with the florescent bulbs(shop light) could have affected anything?

maybe the wood had some form of pollutant that affected the fish's health the way it did

sorry for you fish, this stuff happens from time to time, hope you find out what it was.
