I have an 8 year old lungfish that is about 2 ft long that has become very sick. First I notice that it wasn't very active and it was floating vertical with its head at the bottom of the tank making it hard for him to come up for air. Then I noticed that it's tummy is very swollen. Sometime it floats at the top of the tank. I treated the take with Antibiotic for Fish yesterday but he isn't getting any better. He has two other fish with him, a Oscar and a sucker fish, they are both fine.

What type of sucker fish is in there? If it is a plecostomus, that can mean trouble for lungfish. What are you feeding the lung? If the stomach is swollen, it could be an obstruction.

It is a plecostomus, but its been in ther with him for 7 years. Its actually my boyfriends fish. Im not sure what brand or type of food but I know its large fish pellets. Im trying to figure this out for him because he is very up set. He doesn't want to lose his friend. :(

I would think the swollen stomach is the biggest problem here. So there is a total of 3 fish in the tank including the lung? So it did not eat another fish in the tank? Also, are there any missing equipment in the tank like bubblers or suction cups? Could it have eaten a foreign object? You may want to consider placing the lung in a shallower tank or tub so it can relax and get air when it wants to.

He didn't eat any other fish and yes there are 3. We are moving him to a more shallow place now. I cant see that he ate anything. What ever is causing his tummy to swell is also making float. If he has eaten something is there even any way to help him?
