I was wondering why they were eating the fry exactly 3 days after the fry were free swimming they disappeared no trace and only the female would be guarding them as the male would be chasing the other fish
Did you see the parents do it? Most times EBA are good parents.
I suspect it could have been the other fish in the tank. Not the parents
Parents can protect the fry until they get to be free swimming then it’s a lot tougher for them because the fry venture off some and are able to get picked off.

It is possible but the all vanished all in one go I thought the odd one would hide and survive these are still juveniles got them in November they were all about 1 and a half inches the male has grown rapidly and is about three and a half inches.

Electric blue acaras only keep the dark face mask when spawning/tending fry. My pair goes back to normal coloration in between spawns. They only spawn now every month or so. Maybe yours are just on a break.

IMO if the pair bond was broken you’d likely see the male try to chase/attack/mutilate the female.

well 3 weeks after moving the other 3 eba the pair although appearing not to be a close have spawned again it will interesting to see how long the fry will last the only real threat to the fry i the krib but she stay right at the other end of the tank.
