Hi guys , here is a fish that I unexpectedly found in an old ditch in my fruit orchard very close to the jungle.

I went there to collect fruits and usually didnt pay attention to the ditch as I thought that there was no fish like it was 10 years ago as it was cut off from the main body of water. But when I walked beside it, I saw movement among the sunken leaves in the ditch. After several minutes of stalking , I saw several channa gachuas in several spots , but one gachua looked injured . There was one big dominant gachua attacking anything including rasboras .

I used a stick to probe around to check the injured gachua. I thought it would disappear after being poked around instead it came nearer and toying around with the end of stick. I put a bucket that i hold in the water and thought , if you want to come with me , get in. It did .hehe

After 1 day in emergency aquarium , it already ate small centipede and several crickets . It was shy only for a few hours then was acting like a fish that Ive kept for quite some time. Very unique personality IMHO

As for the injury , i am treating with salt and ketapang leaves. Anymore opinions/tips are welcomed.

Sorry for the potato level camera phone

Sorry I don't have any help to offer I just wanted to say how awesome I found your story and what a nice looking fish he is. Good for you on the rescue and good luck.

Thanks . It was just a coincidence . I would release it back after it is healed , or get a group of them to put in a large aquarium. Depends on the permission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (WIFE). haha

Wow, what a lucky pick up... and to think it was in a ditch all this time...

I find your story a little hard to believe but nice channa regardless

Cool little find, My gachua are personable fish, mine showw no fear of humans. Right from the start if I approach the tank they came looking for food lol

As for treatment Channa heal FAST , clean water is all they need and the ketapang leaves are a great addition. I would skip the salt Most channa have a fairly low salt tolerance , I've known many to use it without any consequences it's not needed and i wouldn't recommend it. By the pic's those injuries are VERY minor, those torn fins will be healed up in a couple day's .

Ok , frequent small water change might help then . .

The injuries are not shown clearly from the pics as the fish would not be in position . There are torn fins , lost scales and deep red scratch at back of head near to dorsal fin , under the body, and several bruises and spots on the body. It looks like it has been in a long fight . But i will try what I can to see this fish back to its beautiful form.

A thing to add , the ditch that I was mentioning about was far from usual ditch that you would imagine. It was dug up with an excavator close to 15 years ago to prevent flash flood destroying the then newly planted small fruit trees. To reach as close to the orchard ,4x4 is needed . Non 4x4 , need to park about 1km away and trek through a small stream and several other orchards . No roads can be easily made as this place is very near to the reserve forest and it is highly guarded. About the flora and fauna there , suffice it to say that there are plenty and I found many crossing over my orchard but as no harm done ,no harm given. Sorry for the long post , Im excited talking about this
