fyi, 300 watts is the highest power available on these.
I have 3 of these units on my new 180G. in the house. I was tiring of heaters that always need replacement nowadays, so researched about reliable & accurate units for my bigger tank.
With all 3 running (they stay on at all times) the tank is just maintaining 75 degrees. so 900 watts on at all times, is terribly inefficient. besides the fact that I couldn't crank the temp up if I needed to.? I'm gonna have to buy a glass heater.

I had the tank close to 80 degrees before I installed these.
?

I have a 200 watt version of this that I had in my 80gal for years w/o issue. Held a rock solid 80 degrees the entire time. Only reason for pulling out was because I got an Eheim 2180 Pro with built in heater. Not sure about your specific issues but theoretically three of mine would be MORE than enough to heat your 180gal so 300 watt should be more than enough. Personally, I wouldn't run three different heaters though but that's just me. Find something that can do the job by itself and I bet you will have MUCH better luck. Think of it like this, each heater is still only 300 watts and they are all on separate thermostats. So when one drops below the set temp it kicks on and it's till just a single 300 watt heater trying to heat a 180gal tank. Using the equipment you have you may want to get some sort of a digital controller that takes a single temp and that all three of them plug into. This way when the temp drops below the controller turns on ALL three of them at once which is 900 watts of heating power until it reaches the desired temp. I don't have a large setup so I can't speak as to first hand how to solve your issues but those are my thoughts. I'm sure someone that knows more than me on this topic will come along to correct, clarify or back up what I've said. Good luck.

900w should be plenty to heat a 180g unless you live in a minus Celsius area. I find it more efficient adding a powerhead near the heater to evenly distribute the heated water.

Your not setting them up right. Read the instructions. I had 4 300 watt via aqua titaniums on my 800 gallon and heated well over 80 degrees easily. You should be able to use only 1. Best heaters ever made. Learn how to use them!

The number displayed normally is current temp from the sensor. You need to keep pressing the button to the desired temp and then the display will change back. If they lose power they reset back down.

Ill stay away from via aqua period. I have a 300 watt via aqua that can't even heat a 15 gal. To 76*.

there is a whole bunch of water circulating around the heaters, and the whole tank.
I have set them up right. although have verified that the probe / digital display is indicating about 5 degrees higher than actual tank temperature. therefore it has probably been kicking off.
I am gonna try setting it even higher. haven't had any power bumps, if we did a few different digital displays in my house would be blinking.

Do you have it plugged into a power strip? If so a simple switch off and on to prime filters or something would set it back. I'm running the same exact heaters on all sorts of tanks now. I recall having a hard time figuring out how they worked at first.
Circulating water won't make the temp sensor read lower than actual water temp. It's not like wind chill.

But my sensors are all off up to a few degrees. So good idea on compensating.

Also why do you think they are running all the time? They automatically turn on and off and I see no indicator of when this is happening. They do warm slowly initially... but don't let that fool you they will boil your fish if you let them.

I find they can hold a temp more stable than anything else I've used

Edit. I think I found the heating indicator light on the display. Couldn't this just mean it hasn't reached desired temp yet. I don't think it's like the glass ones where the light comes on when the heating coil is energized. Initial heating is much more difficult than holding temp.

I think it is just a good program built in that keeps it from frying itself on large warmups. Causing the slow initial warm while cycling on and off the coils.

Haven't heard of many via aqua haters. What is your brand of choice?

Jagger?

I wouldn't say hater but dislike the quality of it. It could be the heater faulty when I bought it. I mean come on I got a $7 odessa heater that works better.

Personally I like aqueon pro heaters but will go with anything that will do its job.
