Victorian Hap. ID help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK, this is a good one. From the picture that is posted, you say that it is neither the ruby green or the burtoni. I have scoured my resources and can't come up with anything. It has coloration that is similar to the burtoni, but has blue where a burtoni should not. As for it being a ruby green, it does no have near enough green on it. As the Rubys begin to color, the green is very prominant and never really takes on a blue tint.
The tail is a very tricky part. Te me, it looks as though there could be red that shows up on the tail eventually. Looks to be a young fish, 1.5-2.5".

I would have to say that this guy is most likely a hybrid. If you could find a picture with better coloration or when it gets older, that might help us get to the ID a little better.

I agree. It looks nice but doesn't look like any of the Vics I am familiar with or have seen pics of and it sure isn't similar to anything in the book of Vics I have. Pics when it is an adult may help better like Pharaoh said.

Agreed with pharaoh and hutch. Let it mature more and color more. Then we could give you a positive identification. It can possibly be a hybrid mostly with burtoni or just a juvenile burtoni.

a more recent pic i just got tonight

I'm still going with hybrid. But its a keeper none the less. If you decide you don't like hybrid, then I'll take him off your hands.:naughty::grinno:

its not my fish, someone collected them locally and sent the pictures to my club website looking for an ID.

I have traded e-mails with the guy asking for the location, but he wishes to keep the spot secret (understandable) ... of course he didn't mind asking me to help him make money off them LOL. I told him I could point him in the right direction, but was mainly interested in collecting some for myself.

I like it regardless. I wouldn't mind having a male or two for a show tank.
