One of my male dovii and my female managuense paired up recently and the eggs hatched. They aren't free-swimming yet, but should be in another day or two. Here is video of the parents guarding them. I'll update the thread with the progress of the fry. Dovii and Managuenses are my 2 favorite cichlids, so the combination of the two is my dream fish. I am anxious to see what these guys look like as they mature. Hybrid lovers wish me luck!!! :-)

Thanks everybody. I'm not big into making a profit. Whenever my fish mate I usually take the bulk of the fry to a local fish store I deal with and just keep the biggest few for myself. With this cross-breeding I'll most likely keep them in house, but will be glad to give a few away to anyone who is local enough to pick them up, once they reach 1 inch or so.. The amount of eggs she laid wasn't as large as she's laid in previpous spawnings with one of my male managuenses. So I'm not even sure how many survivors I'll be able to get to 1 inch. I'll keep this thread updated with their progress though and we can go from there.

The babies are now free-swimming and it's more of them than I thought!!!

Hey buddy I'm actually trying to accomplish exactly this very hybrid. Was it tough for you? Also do you have any updated pictures? Nice work.

I have the same thing going on with my male jag and female dovii.
Here's the thread:http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=293689
I need to update the photos!
It'll be interesting to compare the fry from the reverse pairing of these two species. My fry are about 3/4 -1" now. Their bodies are more elongated than Jag fry, much like dovii, and they have 4-5 vertical stripes rather than the long horizontal stripe on dovii fry.
Good luck with yours!

Congrats to Ed and pelleeklund. Unfortunately all of my fry died. I think I removed the parents too soon, and they were not yet quite ready to fend for themselves. I was just so scared that the parents would eat them. Every day I came home there were less and less of them. So anyway, the parents mated a 2nd time but ate the babies 2 days later, and then the male beat up my managuense pretty bad. She's recovering in a tank by herself right now and the dovii is in a 120G about to mate with his sister any day now. I plan to reunite the Jag and Dovii in the near future, once she recovers.

Ed, I'm gonna check out your thread. I am hoping to see pics of your fry as they mature.
