Noticed the gars start this chasing behavior lately. I increased temps and dropped water level so that the surface is agitated making more noise and oxygenated the water more. Could that be a trigger?

the temp is, gar will become more active in warmer water(and they do eat non stop too)
 
The chasing or following is pretty normal behaviour for gars as well. Your seem to be doing it a little more intensely that what I usually see. Not something I would be worried about, I just keep an eye on it.
