Mel your Collection of Cichlasoma is breathtaking.

Your Festae, Ornatum, Atromaculatum, and Islantum are all gorgeous, perfect specimens.

Getting all these guys to the 16" range takes serious dedication and patience.

Yes they are artificial rocks. I had them made several years ago from a locale company that supplies zoos and such....

The Ornatums are doing fine. I have not been able to confirm if the female laid eggs or not. I can tell you she has moved from one cave to another the night before last. Perhaps moving wigglers ? In any case no fry yet.

Well The female has come out of her cave and looking almost gaunt. She was so loaded with eggs the last time I saw her.
In any case there are no fry I am sorry to say. I believe they did spawn (or attempted to). The male either did not do his job
properly or the eggs (which I never did see so I can not confirm they existed except for the females drastic difference in appearance) developed
fungus. This is similar to what happened with my Festae the first time they spawned. Second time there was lots of fry. Perhaps the
Ornatums will follow a similar pattern....
