i was down in long beach this last summer, and i went out on a fishing boat. to our surprise, we also got into these squid. it is insane how difficult it is to real them up, it took me at least 30 minutes of relentless pulling and reeling to land just a single one. they will attack your bait before it reaches the bottom, every time. as far as the meat goes, i just cut it into strips, beat it with a mallet, and cooked it as though it were calamari. it ended up delicious.

Don't feel bad! You eat meat don't you?

These squid are slowly taking over the fishery and are expanding their range every year. Without fishing people fishing for them to reduce their numbers they will eat ALL the fish! Besides they are very cannibalistic and brutal! They've been known to attack divers and each other!

Are they really expanding their range...or is overfishing causing them too venture farther in search of prey? And just because they are cannibals and brutal doesn't mean much, can't kill something just because its dangerous the world is full of dangerous animals. Sharks attack divers too...

i agree, except look at the shark population now? especially great whites, devastated because of us, im not saying we shouldnt fish for these species, but i think it should be controlled and managed, if the squid population is truly growing, then yes fish them, but if not then controlled management should be practiced

Yes, they are GREATLY expanding their range and GREATLY increasing in numbers! By being cannibalistic and brutal I meant that one shouldn't feel bad about eating killing and eating them.
