Vieja Argentea experience,anyone...?

My argentea grew from 2" to 11" in three years. I've yet to see one in the 14-16" range that everyone claims they grow to. I've only seen 2-3 over 12".
They're pretty aggressive to fish with similar body shape and colors. I had issues keeping my male with a smaller argentea in a 220, and practically impossible to keep him with a female in a 6' tank.
I picked mine up when he was around 6". It took him about a year and a half to reach 12". He was pretty aggressive towards other larger fish, but didn't bother smaller less aggressive ones. Make sure to feed him plenty of spirulina-enriched foods.
I have had Argenteas before and find that if you put them in a tank that is established already with other fish, they will not be as aggresive. But if you put them alone in a tank and then try to add more fish, good luck with that. You'll be buying fish every other day.
They are closely related so I think he was just using it as an example of around how fast they grow. But I think genes and dominance play a big role.Modest_Man;4297458; said:
