have there ever been any hybrids with this species, ifso would anyone mind posting pictures, or if not maybe info on why? i have a feeling because there so aggresive, but im still unsure
yeah noone makes kamfa with these because they are grey... obviously wouldnt make a fish that would sell well. They do have a nice shape though, it is possible but I have never seen it done. kamfas are usually made with pranburi, red head and zonatum, as they are the most common and colourful. Most are made with redhead though
The key to their aggression is the size of tank mate, they are only really concerned with tank mates that are close in size. Mine has lived with three tinfoil barbs incident free for quite some time. That being said I have read that breeding time brings out the worst in these giants.
as with most cichlids they turn into monsters once the beds are layed ;-) i dont know if i would ever have one perminatly but part of a breeding project would be interesting
Not much action out of them kind of slow moving but if you get a good quality specimen they can make a stunning show piece. Photos don't do justice to the iridescent shine that the ghostly cichlids posess.
so how are they overall? as pets? ok, ill what it like this, say i telling you i wanted one, what you tell me in a "what to expect" way? sorry if thats confusing
Well I haven't found mine to be as interactive as other large cichlids species like say Midas or even other types of veija. I was told by the shop owner where I bought him he was wild caught and he was very skittish for quite some time but now he isn't bothered by anything just doesn't seem to care he swims around slowly picking through the gravel every so often a small burst of energy chasing a tinfoil barb. His blacks and greys change in darkness depending on his mood, but the way the light reflects off his white is gorgeous. Now I can't speak for all as this is the first and only Argentea I've kept and he is in a tank to him self, but I've really enjoyed him, had so many glass bangers was kind of nice to get a large cichlids that didn't seem to care either way if I was there or not unless I was feeding him. A lot of the appeal also for me was I'd never seen one in person before the day I bought him and I like having fish that people who aren't die hards have never seen before the rareness was very appealing to me and would definitely keep another one.
