Vieja Breidhori

Are male viejas usually more colorful than females? My hartwegi is really nice and colorful and the bottom half turn really dark when breeding and spawning and raising its fry.
I believe the giveaway is the black in the dorsal. If you look at the pics I posted the one on top is the female, you can see the black blotch in her dorsal withch is evident in yours as well. She is not quite as long bodied as the male (pictured below). She has a much rounder profile and a much more sloped head profile than the male. All that aside, I spent some time watching them last night and they are going through their pre-spawn routine. I was surprised at this being they are so young. I've had other Viejas that didn't spawn till they were quite a bit larger than this. The male is only about 5" and the female about 4".
Sounds good. I was fourtinate to get my male and he looked drasticlly different. Man that sound's like you will have wigglers soon. GL. My female had her first spawn at about the same size. Unfoutinatly it was with my JD. But I still have a few of there fry as well.
They have been courting in the typical Vieja fashion. They get a little rough but not too bad toward each other. There is a second female in the tank that they will not allow to come out of hiding!orbit;2944056; said:I can't even find one of these cichlids to buy!!They are true beauties.
