VIEJA EXPERTS, PLEASE ID!!

We can certainly rule out synspilus, as the lateral line has curveture and goes right up to the gill plate. Also in the first photo the fish appears to have a lot of blue on the face. This could suggest zonatum at least. There's also a lot of red to the edge of the tail and finnage.

Could be sp. 'coatzacoalcos' mixed with something else. Fenestratus, Hartwegi? We probably have to wait and see when the fish grows and colours up more. But not synspilus, more likely Paratheraps than vieja.

kinda looks like a hartwegi.

It's a Synspilum.

Sorry but neither fish pictured is a Synspilum. The original pic looks like a Guttulatum to me but could be a hartwegi. Def not a synspilum. There are many Vieja hybrids out there so it could be that as well. The last pic there looks to me like a bifasciatum/synspilum cross which are fairly common. I back this up with 30 years of raising and breeding most of the Vieja group.
