Vieja Guttulatum Gold Cheeked

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Because Im now researching guttulatums.

OK. So now I learned that guttus a zons could be be same fish except in different areas. Am I right?

thanks for the link.

btw, your fish is super cool.

Yes thats right, some people think the same about melanurus/synspilus. Paratheraps/Vieja can be so damn complicated, especially with all the hybrids floating about. It kind of makes me wonder about selling guttulatus as a valid species, especially at the price previously mentioned. Still a lot of research to do with this fish.:)

So who came up with the name guttulata anyway? And which got named first? Zonatas or Guttus? I think if they are exactly the the same they are one kind. Well unless as adults they have differences.

this is from the link you posted

Beautiful tank and fish, except the fish may be anything but Paratheraps guttulatus, this species from Lake Amatitlan is lost and nobody really known how it looks. However, from the holotype and drawing you can infer it may not look like your fish. In fact, it seems you are crossing it with a P. synspilus female.

ok.. So what's your point?

Guttulatus was first described by Albert Gunther 1864, zonatus Meek 1905. Then you've also got the confusion of sp. Coatzacoalcos which looks very simular to P. zonatus.

Why are you asking for pictures of a fish he didn't buy, from a thread that is a year old?

Good point. I gotta start looking at the dates of these threads.:irked:
