are any of them mellow or do they all act like black belts pretty much, any for community tank?

look into regani. They have the most color by far, are not aggro and should be fine in a 150gallon or bigger tank for life.

synspilum, melanarus and regani are generally considered the less aggressive of the vieja/paratheraps group.

So far I have 3 argentaes in my 125 with an oscar, GT pair, pearsi pair, bocourti and a JD. Could be the number of cichlids I have in there keeping the aggression down. Or... could be all heck just ain't broke loose yet.

But so far, so good...

they are going to run out of room in a hurry in that size tank.

Yeah... as they establish who stays and who goes, the evicted will move to the 150, and then I'll se how things shake out there. I just have some juvies growing out in that tank right now, so I have some flexibility when the time comes. But so far, there hasn't been a lot of aggression.

good call...I forgot about heterospilus. I had one for quite a while that spawned with a zonatus and even when they were guarding eggs (the eggs never hatched or got eaten) they weren't overly aggressive to the other fish in the tank, which was a 150. Heterospilus is a beautiful fish that you don't see very often. :)

I had some heterospilus for a while and they were really mellow. Synspilus are not bad, males can really tear up females if he wants to spawn. I had regani juveniles (3"-4") but did not have luck keeping them, I'd like to try those fish again.

Good luck.
