Oh wow... I think my zonatum and my hartwegi have bonded. They are definitely in breeding dress, and appear to be setting up a spawning site. Crazy. Just got that hartwegi yesterday!

And before the hybrid police attack... no, I will not be distributing any offspring, unless someone in my fish club asks, and they will know specifically what they will be getting... for free.

Thanks! I am quite shocked, and pleasantly surprised. I was worried war was gonna break out. Instead, they are attracted to each other. LOL... go figure!

This is the fish I got yesterday. On the photo, it kinda looks like a hartwegi. But honestly, in my tank, this fish is BLUE. It looks just like a zonatum, in my tank. Maybe these babies will not be hybrids???

If you bought it as a Hartwegi and don't know the breeding line, then you have to assume it's a Hartwegi and not a Zonatum.

Good luck with the new pair.

Well, the previous owner admitted to me yesterday that he bought it as bifa... but to him, it clearly did not look like a bifa, so he posted and asked, and the overwhelming response was that it was a hartwegi, so he went with it. This is why I am now doubting its a hartwegi, and am wondering if it is in fact, a zonatum.

Thanks!

Any other opinions on if this thing is actually a zonatum? While I do think he is, I'd certainly rather have a confirmation or two from someone with a more sure eye for it. Thanks!

Either way they are beautiful and will have beautiful frys....I love the Thai Viejas hybrids....if yours turn out like that buddy it'd be awesome.

I know, right? Given vieja's are among my favorite species, I won't complain even for the hybrids! I'm mostly hoping just so I can at least be honest about what they are, should something like a club member ask or something. I suppose I will have to err on the side of caution, and simply call them hybrids... but I'm cool with it either way. Watching them do the shimmy right now! LOL... hilarious!
