That looks like a zonatum to me. I had one a few years back and looked very simililar to that one in your pic. They can be very aggressive my male would not let me keep anything else in his 80 gallon with him. It was 11 inches before I finally sold the beast and regret it 10 years later. One of my favorite cichlids any Vieja species that is,

Nah... other than posting on this board, I have not asked anyone else specifically, though I am feeling about 90% sure it is a zonatum. It just looks too much like my other zonatum, especially in breeding dress.
Well, they laid eggs, watched over them for several days, then ate them. So the first try was not successful. They have, however, remained in breeding dress and behavior, so we'll see if they make another go at it.
