Vieja melanura

I’ve got a group of 7 in a 240g and keep a handful of Cryptoheros cutteri. I rarely pull fry from either species. I also have a large group of nanoluteus)one of the best strains I’ve seen)from N newworld which may replace the cutteri.

Are you planning a larger tank than the 125?
Eventually yes, they are only 2" in long currently

I would absolutely try a group of smaller cichlids. I have another 240g with Oscura Heterospila who share the tank with a very large school of lemon tetras. But, this vieja group has shared many grow outs of panamensis and Hondurans and Thorichthys pasionis along the way. They’re around 8 years old averaging from 9-13” and don’t pay any attention to the smaller cichlids.

Well the nanolutea might go in with them at least for now so there's a bit more activity, maybe

I'd leave adding small cichlids if you are to try it until the Vieja are much larger (of course not large enough to predate on them). A.Nanolutea aren't really able to put up with much aggression, the few times I've grown batches out they are quick to retreat and fail to flourish until removed. Shame because they are beautiful but their attitude and resilience isn't on par with other Amatitlania etc. The couple of pairs I kept live in a 240 with a few B.Smaragdina, L189 and a shoal of pristella tetras that I've nowhere better to place.

I also left the aca convention with an 8 pack of amatitlania kanna think they'd fare better?

Alright well they'll go in tonight they're in a bare bottom tank with just a sponge filter for now so that should be an easy move
