Vieja/Paranettroplus Regani

No, I have some Argentea in the tank with him, and they are noticeably different. Argentea are more white. Vertical stripes almost all the way to the belly. Body shape on Argentea is different.
And the sheen to the scales on Regani is totally different from the Argentea. But my Regani has the same face mask as the Argentea, and I don't know if that's right or not.

I've never seen a Regani with a mask before so I did a quick check online for pics but couldn't find an image of a Regani with a mask. I do agree the sheen on a Regani is different though then an Argentea, Argentea seem to be a flat whiteish color while Regani have a slight green metallic sheen to them. Mine has it too but due to my lighting being 8000k toward the blue spectrum of light it gives his scales the appearance of a slight blue tinge.

Can I ask where you got them from?

Sorry, dude, but that's an argentea not a regani in your pic.

I have a 5" regani and he's got a ton of red and metallic blue all over "his" body. Can't wait for him to grow out

+1 that's argentea all the way. They look very similar to regani. Argentea are silver/white & regani have a green sheen also no black mask like that. Looks like a solid healthy fish in any case.

If they're not Regani, they're hybrids. Because I've got 5 Argentea in the tank with them, and tbe Argentea are a different color, and shape. Unless there are 2 different strains of Argentea--I've never heard of different strains of Argentea.

There is always variation within a species. Are the argentea you have and your other fish from different stores? Is there a size or age difference?

Can you share more pics so we can see what you're talking about with the differences between the fish you have that are supposed to Regani and Argentea. It's weird as I buy from Aquascapeonline and usually they're pretty good with their IDing Vieja/ExVieja even as juveniles. Another of the tell tale signs of Regani besides the lack of mask and green sheen to the scales is the red specks and red in the fins. Even Aquascapes pics of juvenile Regani look very different then the fish you have pictured. You can see just how light the specks are compared to a Argentea since they're red rather then black even as juveniles.
