I recently bought 3x of Vieja Melanrus, Paratheraps Fenestratus and Herichthys sp. Turquoise. I'm just wondering what their growth rates are. I've read some Vieja and Paratheraps are .5" a month while some are 1". Haven't read anything about the Turqs though. I'm trying to figure out if any are going to outgrow the others so that I can be prepared and have another big empty tank ready.

Thanks Pete. My wife just got back from NOLA, that's where she's from. I forgot to mention that they are all 1.5-2" right now. Is that .5" for all of them? There's not much info on the Turqs.

ime zonatus grows the quickest of the ones i've kept which includes bifas, synspilum, melanarus, zonatus and argentea so I can't comment on the fenestratus.

melanarus and synspilus seem to grow about the same rate which is about .5" per month max. :)

My only real experience with those you listed is with Herichthys.

With 50% water changes weekly in my 265 and a varied daily diet of pellets, flakes, shrimp, mealworms, earthworms & peas, Ive been lucky to get .5 a month on my vontehillos. The cyanos, on the other hand, do that or better. They have grown 3x faster than the vonts. The lahillas and chariel Ive had in the past grew about as fast as the cyanos.

The only experience I've had was with my own Argentea. I got him when he was around 5-6". Originally he was in a 55 with an AC110, where I did 50% water changes weekly. Within 6 months I upgraded to a 75 as he was around 8-9". It's been about a year since hes been in the 75 and he's a solid 11-12" - and has put on some serious girth. Next week he's getting a 125 all to himself.

All that being said, they're not the fastest growing fish, but they're certainly not as slow growing as a Green Terror or a Grammodes.
