Guttalatus for sure never seen a bifa with that much blue. My bifas have red spec faces and orange red bodies with a light blue sheen. I saw some guttulatus in the lfs yesterday these are spitting images had to check your location cause they were selling for 40$a piece not exactly a steal.

Beautiful fish regardless . If they spawn successfully PM me immediately! I will get some from you for sure if your willing to ship.

Several Vieja species look so much alike that it becomes an academic exercise for ichthyologies and a few hobbyists to hair split them. They even split the species into two genus, Vieja and Paratheras and they aren't the same.

I am not sure what is the standard for distinguishing fish species. I know in mamals the standard is much stricter, like they cannot interbreed or their hybrid offsprings must be infertile. As far as I know, all these closely related fish species can cross breed and produce fertile offsprings, so they are more like subspecies or geographic race to me. In the old days they will all be collected and bred as one species and today we found out that Red Devel is actually Midevel and discus is blending of several species.
