Its normal for the male and female to fight a bit but if they dont stop and you dont see the ritual cichlid mating behavior then seperate them. I tried several times to breed my male rd with a nice female rd and they would fight nonstop probobly to the death if I let them. But he paired up within minutes to his current mate. Then the female rd paired up with another fh male with no fight at all. These fish can be as picky as us.Id keep trying different combinations.
