I'm sticking with breiderhi look at the line & I'm guessing the fish in question is about 6-7 inches. I'm sure it is breiderhi to dark to be bifasciatus. there is always some variation in a species so get conkel's book or Axelrods Lexicon of cichlids. The cichlid pictorial also has some nice fish.

yes they look similar most young veja have the uniform gray but look at the photos on tangledupincichlids.com photo gallery it looks like the breidorhi I used to own also. fenes. are more elongated & streamlined. this fish is heavy bodied compared to fenes. plus more green then fenes. there are always color variation in a species.
I have bothe Fenestratum (regular and pink) as well and Breihordi.

I have the Fenestratun, Breihordi, Bifaxciatum, Synspilum, Heterospilum, Regani, Argentae, Zonatum and Ufermani in tanks downstairs. Id'ing juveniles can be tough. but the fish in the picture is a denet size.

Ok seeing them side b side I get it I've onl had breidorhi nevewr reall found fenes. interesting. b/c they still look more streamling(meaning not high bodied but rounded torpedo shaped) to me in regards to other veja. I've kept regani, maculacauda,& argentea which I think are one of most hostile veja out there to be so thin, now I will sa fenes. are thick & heavy.
