I have the Argentea, Breidohri and Synspillum right now. You've also got the Heterospillum, Ufermanni, Bifasciatus, Melanormus (spelling), Black belt, Regani, Zonatus, Hartwegi. There are a few others but I can't think of anymore right off hand.

Nice pics

not all of them have common names and a few of them have the same common name. for instance, "red head cichlid" could be referring to bifasciatus, synspilus or fenestratus. I've never heard a common name associated with heterospilus, ufermanni, tuyurense, hartwegi, argentea, regani, guttulatus, or zonatus.

I know some of them are difficult but really the best thing to do is try remembering the scientific names. common names can be very confusing especially when the same name can refer to several different closely related species.

:)

How is the fishes personaitly, also aggrestion, and more pics please

I had a 12" fenestratus that would not tolerate ANY tank mates.

in a 265 he beat down my 15" jag and 18" chinese perch. I had to get rid of him:(

I've heard that others arent quite as mean but mine was the spawn of satan.

LOL, so vieja's are more aggresive, where are they from, rally you have any pics

I had a fenestratus that was psyco as well. He terrorized RD's, Flowerhorns, blackbelts, motaguense, and a barred midas. They were in a 150gal.

Actually the only 2 that I know of with common names in america are the Macualicada( black belts) & Snyspillum (Red Head or red top). The rest of the complex the latin is the common. Thing is with common name they actually aren't that common unless generation upon generation accepted. Reason being is not everyone speaks the same langauge, each area even in the same country may call the animal something different. If the species has a broad range then one area will call it something while another calls it something else. Take gaupote for instance this is what many large food fish, regardless of species, are commonly called in many central american countries.

Plus several species can be called the same common name Parrot fish for example is the common name for a hybrid cichlid an actual valid species of cichlid & at least 2 salt water species of fish. Latin stays the same across the language, continental, & any other barrier.
