Some viejas are very passive, some are super agressive. They are my favorite group of fichlids. They all get around 14" and up, and are very thick bodied, and "bulky".

oh, and if you say the word "guapote" in most CA areas in regards to a fish you'll actually get laughed at. Guapote means handsome man. ;) A similar instance happened to a someone on a collecting trip when they were looking for jags and asked about other "guapotes" that might be in the area. I can't remember who the collector was but I remember reading that in the article he wrote detailing the trip. I believe the article was on Juan Miguel's website, the same one the pictures in the links above are found. :)
 
Crazy...there crazy fish how big do they get, i need to buy another tank...lol
 
All viejas I know of get between 12-18". The synspillums usually top out a little over 16", the zonatus can get 13-15". They are very thick bodied and bulky. For synspilum the minimum tank size is proble a 100g, most of the others could probly do well in a 75.
