Virginia Opossum...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha, Raccoons are sneaky bastards! They are all over the place at my Grandmas house, they are always stealing shiny objects, such as tools. Crazy little buggers.

I will definately get two female sugar gliders (dont want fighting and a pissy male to deal with) and possibly two female short tailed opossums.

And about the spaying/neutering its been recomended by all the caresheets I have read, because most of the time Females go throught PMS and then sometimes they just stay that way there whole life, and the males just become agro during the season.

I hate to see pics of the Virgininias hung by there tails, as in the wild they dont really do that, but thats about the only way to safely handle one, or if you get it by the back of the neck, and even then they can still do some damage.

I dont know though, I was just hoping there was some way to keep a Virginia as a pet, I dont know why I like them, I just do. I think they look pretty cool, Haha.

That Place that sells the possums is pretty crazy, they also sells different color morphs of Fox. If I had the money and space, I would definately build and outdoor enclosure for a fox or two, with really deep dirt for them to burrow in and hides and everything. But I'm not a millionare.

But I will definately check out the Shortails when I'm moved out of my parents (Mom said no more pets until I'm moved out) and will probably get a female pair, and I am definately getting a female pair of sugar gliders.

Why isnt there a Glider picture thread?

LOL, sounds like my mom. Now it's my wife saying "no more pets til we get a bigger place" lol

At first, it was just "No reptiles" (even though I have a BCC at my dads, but thats not the only reptiles i have kept, those are just the ones she knows about, LOL)But then she let me get a turtle, so now its "No more pets" but if we move next year there might be a chance I can get sugar gliders.

Also, when I was looking up stuff about the Short-tailed, I saw some pictures of Fat-tailed, it looks like a cross between a glider and a Short-tailed, pretty cool looking animal.

Ever look into Richardson's Ground Squirrels?

Never kept one, but from what I hear if you get a young one, they make pretty cool pets. Similar to Sugar Gliders, they prefer the company of other RGSs, as they live in colonies and make social bonds and whatnot.

I'll have to look them up, they seem pretty cool frm what youve said, Thanks.

Just because hundreds of people keep them as pets doesn't make them domesticated. Thousands of people keep snakes, but snakes haven't been domesticated yet and probably never will be.

That said, my wife's aunt does wildlife rehab and she raises baby possums once in a while. They're nice and friendly until she starts feeding them meat, which is what they're supposed to eat. My advice: don't get a possum. Especially when you're 15.
