Well hello everyone, I've made a couple of posts here and just wanted to say hi to everyone. I'm new to the forum and glad to be. I'm a proud hydocynus vittatus keeper as well as a few other types of monsters. Attached are some pictures of my baby! Hope you like

Nice. To small for me to ID but its def a ATF. Are you starving him or is he just under fed?
Arowana's are good Teacher fish ;)

Oh no, this guy is fresh, and eats up a storm! I feed everyday and the Aro really helps scatter the feeders down to him :)

cool fishy's! i would say, however, that eventually your most likely gonna have to separate the aro and tiger .... the aro will be probably over 12 inches in 6 months, while the tiger will only be half that at best, which means the aro may get a very expensive lunch if he gets hungry .... i had a baby aro with my baby tigers and had to sell off the aro ... he didnt eat anyone, but was so huge his mere presence scared the very finiky tiger, and i knew it was only a matter of time ... i hope you fare better, and you never know till you try, so i wish you luck ... just dont want you to wait too long and lose the tiger :( welcome aboard!!

The tank the tiger is in will be the aro home soon. I have 120 gal that my tiger is anxious for cycling at the moment! The whole reason I started the hobby was for a atf and now that I have him, its my purpose to succeed with him. I will pray to fare better than most people have with these fish! They are all the same size at the moment and I'm in the process of moving my payara to his own for a while too. I've heard so many horror stories between my friends. Jardini getting ate by a payara. My buddies Goliath tiger eaten by his Aro. Something tells me a comm of predatorial fish should always be kept alone or in threes company of the same species! Kinda generic But everyone has that edge to do what isn't in the nature of the beast and then it becomes a huge fail lol!!! Ill hope it don't cost me!

I had a 18" black aro with my (at the time) 15" VATF and it was not long before the Aro was in one corner scared! Took 12 hours to find out he dislikes Aros Lol.

Badazszzss fish none the less, I have been itching for another Vittatus, just have not picked one up YET.

cool man, you had the same goals as me when i started over a year ago, and sounds like you have a lot of knowledge. I've had some losses, but overall have done very well. Have 3, 8-10 inch Goliaths, and 1, 7-8 inch Vit along with some friends all doing well. And i agree, i love Tigers, and they have to be what the tank is designed around ... very rarely can you have a tank full, then decide to throw in a Tiger... they require so much more, and are fussy, and very slow growing, but when it works, it is awesome! good luck

it doesnt surprise me that the tiger went after the aro ... my Vit is smaller, yet much more aggressive than the Goliaths. Problem is the damn Arowana's grow so fast, but a 15 inch Vit is a beast!!!! I'd keep my eyes on him when my hands went in that tank! lol!

Nah, he was a Teddy Bear @ 17". Kept him with Discus as small as 2" top to bottom (pics are here somewhere Lol). I think I had 12 Discus w/him for a few months and got boed w/them like most fish I keep.

Over the years of keeping him (b4 I sold him), there was only 2 fish i can remember that he killed...

12-13" he took off the face of a Mono Sabae
14-15" he ripped up a 9" Orino (wish I seen it happen cause then everyone would have too!)

Only 1 fish I can think of that he did not like.... Arowana's

Other than that, he didn't even eat a feeder that grew to dam big, relocated him to a Pond around 6-7" (from 3-4" he lived w/me :/ ).

Either I had a Jewel or they are not as aggressive as they appear??
