Supposedly, it brings down your Nitrates and has been proven.....BUT (there is always a but). You have to dose carefully and increase oxygen levels via air pump, etc.
Do a google or a search on Reef Central or Saltwaterfish.com, we have talked a lot about it. For my 2 cents, I'll do a water change and drink the vodka myself...

Ok,yeah was looking at tank of the month on RC.sweet setup I must say.anyway this guy says he doses his tank daily with vodka.I was lost when i red that.so it reduces nitrate eh.... very cool are there other spirits that people use on their tank?
lol nice!I dont know,if some guy put vodka in my tank I wouldnt be to happy.my fish would be drunk and my glass would be empty.I guess if you know what your doing you will be fine.interesting stuff,thanx for the input

Seriously, I wouldn't risk any alcohol in any of my tanks.
Maybe there's a very scientific precise dose thats benifitial but I wouldn't do it.
