Why not contact Ira or Don directly about the issue. Seems like the best way to clarify the story surrounding this fish.
This photo was taken directly from an email that Ira sent me yesterday. Notice the MFK watermark. Case closed.
Dazzling!

Heres mine pairing up with kkp for the 3rd time, most eggs are fertile, two or three are white. You may find 'em on gravels.
Water temperature 74F T_T its a night flash, thus all colors are washed out, kkp and flowerpot are red not orange.

Here are pics provided by Don of vontehillo, chariel and lahillas an the charielXloisellei hybrid
vontehillo look stunning, but i haven't seen one like that in real life.
and chariels with big round pearls look nice too. Despite of where it from, I like any carpintis with huge pearls, escondido is one of my favorite too.

Sweeeeeet! Can't wait to see what that hybrid looks like.
thanks if thats for me, i think my vontehillo is more close to adulthood, so i thought i would share. Been feeding it grandsume RED and spirulina, and sometimes it look like a red texas...
And my attempt of getting a good quality wild carpintis and dark red kkp is to get 1 or 3 "super red texas".

I think he was talking about pairing it with the KKP

I added some black gravel in my mixture.....truly beautiful to see how the colors and pearls pop out bolder and darker back to a lighter color when they hang around the white pvc pipes i've got in there.
There's some pics I saw some guy posted of his vont out of water in a blue net. Has anybody seen those yet? Wonder how I could get mine to look like those?.....anyways, time to lose money on tilt

You could always try photoshop is clean water and good food don't work! :naughty:

Seriously though, I did see those pictures, and they were great! If I were you, I'd spend some time picking the right lighting for your fish. It can make a huge difference with the types of fish that have spangles.

Isn't that region of the country riddled with cenotes? If I'm remembering it correctly, that would mean the freshwater areas would have sheer walls leading down to deep pools. These sorts of places would typically receive short durations of direct sunlight and be dim to dark most of the time. That would explain a species developing pearls to make for more impressive displays to attract females and warn off rival males.
So, a dark-bottom tank with dark sides and back should promote the fish to heighten their coloration for the reasons stated earlier.
This is all just my reasoning and opinion. I tend to look at a species' ecosystem when I'm trying to understand traits of the species in question.
