Anyone use these? I have the chance to get one brand new for 60 bucks and I am going to. What do you think of them?

Ok, I got the Vortex XL today and it is great. I went to set it up and realized I had green water (which I have never had before) so I sorta panicked. It's ok now, the Vortex XL sucked it all away. It took a little bit of learning how to use it and I screwed up with the powder a couple of times, but all in all, the filter is really nice and I would reccomend it.

i have use them for years ....in some tanks i would never use one in a reef or any planted tank..as they will make living diatom in them and this u don't want...but a fish only tank ya man u want clear water u get it crystal

OH put a gravel cleaner on the intake end and clean ur gravel ...work awesome and u can clean it till it's completely clean with out hurting the Bactria

yea, it's kicking butt

i hear the powder is very bad for your lungs, thats what steered me away from them. but just be very careful around it and you will never have a dirty tank.

My laptop has diatom powder on it from where I had it in case I needed to refrence online.

Never used one as the primary filter for a tank, but I used one in my first fishroom years ago to polish water and it was great Id run it on each tank a few hours a month kept the whole room crystal.I just picked up a used one at an auction I plan on trying it out this week

It's not my full time filter, I just wanted something to polish the water. The Vortex runs on a timer 5 hours on, 1 hour cool down, 5 hours on, cool down for the night.
