It seems I have found a solution. I'm going to make a Durso Standpipe thing, so the water doesn't have to fall so far into the overflow chamber. No thanks to you guys...

Seems like a good idea...you may want to start out simple and just add extra water to your sump, then the water won't fall as far.
Maybe both...

Yeah, but the intake pipe with the sponge on it only goes up about halfway as it is, and drains too fast for the pump when It gets that high. Adding water just seems to raise the water level in the sump. I'm gonna get some PVC stuff tonight, and hopefully I can put something together. meanwhile, I'm soaking some rocks for the tank. I used pool filter sand, and I love the look of it.

I noticed on your quietone pump you have a hose fitting that seems to have been heated to fit over the fitting they give you.. I found that doing that restricted the flow.. in my case (1/2" I used to the recommended 3/4") I gained about 70 more GPH... just thought I'd give you a heads up...

1) is your Quiet One an "HH" model? "HH" stands for high head (head is the distance from the outlet of your pump to the height of the water level in your tank) If not, this may be your troubles. Higher head equals greater amounts of back pressure upon the impeller. Greater back pressure equates to greater chances of cavitation(spontaneous bubbles) in the impeller sump. Cavitation can cause significant flow reduction, erosion of impeller, and possible failure of impeller all together.

2) If above does not apply, place your pump upon some open cell foam of similiar material to act as a shopck absorber between the pump and the floor of the sump. I noticed in your pictures that the pump is resting of the floor of the sump. The minute vibrations of the pump itself may be causing your noise.

3)..........blue forty-two.......PUNT!
