I believe they are federally illegal at least that's what I was told when I posted mine on the forum:( he's dead now

Yep they are illegal on the federal level,countrywide.

No prohibition is 100% efficient. There are some that slip through the nets, mostly from Canada, where they are legal plus keepers in the US have spawnings... rarely I'd imagine.

Hmmm, so makes me wonder. If there was someone who had a clarius before the law went into effect, and they got them to spawn, and kept them this whole time would those fish be legal to own? :)
 
I think all of that would be covered under the verbiage: illegal to possess.

Which is silly to me because that implies you are breaking a law if you dont destroy your existing fish.

I tend to agree. They are all illegal, no matter how they came about. Yes, one must kill them to comply with the law.
 
Maybe I am a poor example of humanity, but I would never ever ever destroy my pet if I owned it legally and then some dumb law came out because of stupid people releasing fish. Screw that law.. It actually just makes me miss that fish and hope shes doing well.

Stupid sentimentality I know,! but still.. destroy your fish? I think not...
