They look spiny, but since they dont have any enemies in their native Waters (The big ones, and maybe they have enemies, but i doubt it) it makes sense that they dont have protection.

I don't see it either. Their body sort of resembles a bullhead so maybe they meant the dorsal and pectoral tips look spiny which is traditional for catfish. Other than that they look pretty leathery to me, makes me want to pet it

They are extremely leathery to touch. They don't feel slimy at all like most catfish and only their head is hard.
