Of course you CAN use a thick line and/or a leader, but its not ideal. If you know how to fish for them properly, there is no need for heavier line or a leader because you won't need to worry about breaking off constantly.

Whatever, you can't argue with success. These were caught in 6 hours last November. Let's see some pictures of your walleye, since you catch so many, and then the OP can decide if he wants to use a leader or not.

fish in deep areas with heavy cover or at sunset. i use worm harnesses, spoons and rapalas in summer and shiner minnows in winter. they hit anything white, red, gold, silver, or blue very well if you are fishing in the right place. My uncle caught a 16-18 pounder with a shiner one time.
