walmart fish tank

If you want to keep goldfish and guppies, I highly suggest getting a tank as a kit...Tanks sold as kits are targeted for beginners because "everything" you need comes with it. However, the heaters are usually hang on ones, which totally blow... The filters are rated for the tank, but most hang on the back filter companies over rate their filters, so you will want to get a bigger filter. If you just want to keep a few tetras and some simple fish, a kit will be fine. If you want to expand your choices of fish both species and quanity you can safely add, buy everything seperate. I suggest buying fiters and heaters online. You will pay about $8 to ship, but you will save that on a heater alone. I have been using Drsfostersmith.com for over 10 years and like them. Others, however, like BigAls and other online stores. If you do not want to do that, try looking on craigslist online. You can usually pick up a lightly used setup for a fraction of what you would spend on a new set up. Hope this helps.

if u'r lookin for a kit might as well just go to petsmart and pick their kit up. comes with an all glass aquarium, tetra whisper 60 gal filter(they slap the top fin name on it for petsmart), a decent heater. i've had one for over a year with absolutely no problems at all and with that filter if something does end up going wrong u can always get replacement parts from petsmart or anywhere that carries tetra filters.

I have 2 55g setups from Walmart. The stands are nice but only stand 22'' high. And there is not a whole lot of room under the stand for any big cansiters. My 404 hardly fits. I replaced the heaters. The Pumps is ok. You can buy another one for $39. Or run the one it comes with and buy a small cansiter to run with it. The problem with the filter it comes with is that it clogs up fast and you will need to maintain it more. That is why I have two of the filters so I can clean one and then a week later the other one. But It really depends on what you keep in the tank as to what you want to do about the filters.

Also I have a problem with the lights. A lot of condesation gets in there and they will not turn on. Sometimes they work and the next day they do not. So for now I just got some non toxic sealeat and put it around the base of the light and hood. Now it works fine.

You may be better off buying your setup in pieces from Petland or your LFS!!! I have done that for many of my setups and usually get a good price and sometimes I get some things for free and some free fish too. And I get exactlly what I want.

i would get the tank and just get better material for it

I've seen this setup at wallmart for 160 bucks, you can buy a decent tank and hood at Petsmart for 120 bucks. Go to petsmast.com and printout the pages for a peguin 350B filter for 26.99 and a visatherm heater for 15.99 they will price match at the store. Spend another 10 bucks on dechlor, fish food and a thermometer. Now you have the same thing as walmart but with a decent heater and filter and it only will cost ya 10 bucks more.

i wood just do it the right way and spend an extra couple bucks buying the tank piece for piece

I would buy a tank on Craigslist, then got to Petsmart and get an AC110 and some supplies. Tank AND stand shouldn't cost more than $125. I got two nice 55 gal tanks from Craigslist, one for $100 and one for $125, delivered to my house.

crappy thing is that there are no petsmart here in hawaii. here in hawaii we either gotta go to the lfs which usually dont have too many selections on big tanks or are either way overpriced. I've been lookin to get a 125+ tank and its been a pain to find one that is decently priced. craigslist here also dont really have that much selection and ordering something online like ebay is out of the question becuase of shipping to here.
