Uhm... Dump chlorine into the tank? Chlorine kills beneficial bacteria. (Nerdness)

I would get out the duct tape and hardware and turn my tank into a giant...am I allowed to say "water pipe"?...and, after removing the fish, do what one does through a water pipe until the water is brown!

My personal favorite is cranking up the heater as high as it will go for a week.

If I had to get creative though, I would suffocate the bacteria and saturate the water with CO2 and seal it right at the surface.
