don't do play sand, make sure its pool filter sand. play sand is really fine and kicks up easily even when properly rinsed.

as for adding what i did was after rinsing i would put it in plastic bags so i could get it close to the bottom to dump it. just need to make sure to shut off pumps temporarily just in case you lose some higher up.

How do I properly rinse it?

:iagree: but also need to add most important, patience. seriously do not jump ahead and figure the filters will clean up the rest. some of these finer particles will amaze you at their ability to remain suspended but not get sucked up by filters. i don't know if they make it through or around media but if the sand is not rinsed well your going to think sand sucks, which it most def does not.:grinno:

anyways the point is just get a bucket start running water through it a stirring it and do this until the water is CLEAR! i made the "well its only a little foggy" mistake.

my last batch of colorquartz i didn't even rinse and there was hardly any dust/fog in the water.. just dumped it straight into the water... even had my fish in there.. the other sand i used sucked big monkey ones and i rinsed forever..
