how long can a silver aro (baby) live in 72" x 20 or 24" (not quite sure) x 20 or 24" tank, and can it live with my Clown Knife.

For some thats the life size tank, but I would say a 240 absolute minimum for life. But you could keep it in that for a long time, til its a little more than the width then you would know its time to move it.

Of course then you have the problem of finding a safe way to move it once its so large.

For a 72 x 24 x 24, depending on starting size. Up to 5 years. Once the silver is 27-28" it will need a larger tank.

For a 72 x 20 x 20 just a couple years the silver will be 24" in length and in need of a larger tank.

yup for a 20" wide tank till the aro grows 21-22" but that is pushing it
but a 3'+ wide tank could be kept for life

Not always. My last silver grew from 6" or 7" to a tad over 24" in a little less than a year! It grew out to that size in a 240 gal. The fish was then moved to a 600 gal. tank. It can be amazing how fast they grow with good care.

so around 2 years in that tank, if it is 20 wide and 5 if its 24?

This is depending on starting size, average growth is about 1-1.25 per month, but as you can see by hillbilly's post could get real big very quickly.

How is it that you don't know what size your tank is?

because i havent got it yet, and the guy i'm buying it from only knew it was 6 feet long.

Well then that's good news, don't buy that tank. Wait and buy one that is better suited for keeping a silver arowana in.

it'll probably end up being a 125. in that case, it's not worth it IMO
