Want Faster Water Changes?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
pumps are definitely the way to go, but obviously that costs more money and if you have smaller tanks... its just unnecessary. if you have a 75, 125, even 180, sometimes its just easier to use a hose. i'd love to have a pump though. when i get my bigger tank im definitely gonna get one.

At a aquarium convention somewhere they should have a water change competition where participants have to complete a water change with the fastest time and the least amount of spillage. I have long considered myself a pro at this, so bring it on b*tches!!!

I use a 25' long 3/4" ID (1" OD) hose for water changes... the lower the discharge end of the hose the faster the siphon... using this on a tank upstairs near a window and I bet I can drain a tank as fast as most of your pumps can ;)

The cool part is I can attach it to the sink and refill it with the same hose :P

I can drain any of my tanks much faster than my faucets can refill them...

thats great if you are just taking water out, but that doesn't give me much time to vacuum! my biggest problem with WC time consumption is getting the new water to match the temperature and getting the water back in the tank without destroying the decor of the tank

Exactly why I put an unused pump together with a "whole house" filter for nothing but tank vacuuming.
For the water change, same as already mentioned..same hose..out the door, or into the tub. Hooked to some PVC for a hanger, as well as depth of water to be removed. Then hook it up to the sink for refilling.
