In a 125gallon I have

2 - P. Managuense (m/f I believe)

2 - T. Meeki (hoping m/f but not sure)

2 - Convicts (m/f fersure)

1 - Jack Dempsey

and a pretty large tiretrack eel.

Any other pairs I could add to this tank without the jags chasing them constantly? The bioload shouldn't be a problem, I have a Fluval 205, 305, and 405 on this lol. I'm not familiar enough with all the SA/CA species to make a decision on my own, if these were africans on the other hand I wouldnt need this thread.

Thanks in advance guys :D

o god man....

...lol

With over a 1000 posts you must realise that you are not only way over stocked but that the Jag pair will destroy everything in that tank when they breed.

yeah no matter how many filters, eventually that tank will have only a pair of jags, thats ok though a nice huge pair of jags would be sweet to have in that tank, how big are all of the fish right now and what are your nitrate readings/wc schedule, Keeping SA/CA is totally different than africans, unlike africans it is best to NOT overstock with centrals, they need to have enough room to claim territories, interact with each other, etc

Im not really understanding how this is overstocked. I figured the jags would eventually kill off the convicts but they were meant to be feeders anyways. So that would be down to 2 jags, 2 firemouthes, and a JD. How is that "way overstocked"

I wont add anything else, but I still don't get how this can be overstocked with the amount of filtration on the tank.

The nitrate readings are usually around 10-15ppm, and I do weekly water changes of about 40%

Fish sizes,...
Male jag is 7" Female is 5"
JD is around 5"
Firemouthes are 3.5-4"
Convicts are 3"
Tiretrack is about 14" long.

Since when did post count have anything to do with how much one knows about a certain group of fish. I just happen to post in general and african forums alot. Thanks for the degrading post friend.

well its not overstocked right now because they are all young but when those jags reach 16in then they will need the tank to themselves, if they dont kill off your other tankmates then it will probably work since the tank is 6ft and i dont really see them bothering the eel since he is much larger than them already, but just be ready to take the other fish out if the jags pick on them too much, a breeding pair of jags can be quite brutal, however if you took out one of the jags then you cold probably add 1-2 more 10in growing cichlids its just that a breeding pair really narrows your choice of tankmates GOOD LUCK and lets see some PICS!!

I think it's overstocked in the sense that the jags may kill everybody, because they're paired. IMO it's not overstocked in terms of bioload, so if your jags allow it you could add a fish or 2 I suppose.

I'd guess if they kill the cons they will surely kill the FMs. I would add a tex maybe.

Thank you for all your help. Unlike the rest who just say "Too much" or "Overstocked" you actually provide reason, and I thank you for that. I understand now how it would be overstocked when the jags get fully grown. I was under the impression that the jags would max at 12" How long does it take for them to grow this big?? As for the tankmates,..The jags don't really bother them at all. Every now and again, the larger one will chase the fm or jd out of his way, but doesn't even nip they're fins. Ill take some pics soon, my dslr is out of commission at the moment, but I'll get it back Thursday, and get a whole shoot then.

Looking forward to the pictures, if your open to add fish other than cichlids there are quite a bit of dither options open to you. It could also take some of the Jag's aggression away from your cichlids. You could add silver dollars or giant danios (which would be eaten as the jags grow).
