I recently lost my best friend on monday and i promised him that i would keep his fish if something were to ever happen to him!! Now im kind of a fish guy myself i currently have 15 tanks running and have always been a cichlid guy. Anyways long story short to hold up my end of the deal I must construct a pond in my basement to house em. The fish I will be getting are a prunno catfish and a tiger shovelnose. Im planning on a pond of around 600 gallons. Any alvice on filteration would be great. I have a 3600 gph dart pump setting around i was goin to use on my next reef but that can wait. Would the pump be of any use? Sorry Im kinda lost on this any help would be great.

Jeff

I'm sorry for your loss. I know you will be able to find the answers you need here. These people are some of the most knowledgable aquarists around. Check out some of the designs that people have already put on here. How big are the fish you are getting?

The prunno is 18" and the tiger shovelnose is probably 8" right now but will get huge its just a baby. I also want to get a redtailed cat because that was his favorite fish.

check the signature...... that pump would be perfect for a 6-1200 gallon pond. filter design all depends on which avenue you would like to go down, and what your space requirements are. have you thought about what style of a pond you want to go with? there are alot of dif. ideas if you just scroll down in this forum.

i would be more than happy to help with any questions you may have, either ask here or PM me and ill do my best to answer for you.

by the way i want to commend you for keeping your friends fish for him. nice gesture. i would hope my friends would help my wife with mine if anything happened to me.

Sorry dude for your loss....

You are doing a def. solid for yor buddy.

I starting making a filter out of a 18 gallon rubbermaid we will see how it works once i get the pond built and the dart plumbed to it.

with the dart you are going to want 3-4 2" drains out of that tub, otherwise if one gets plugged somehow it will only take about 2 seconds for it to overflow.

A dart pump would definitely do the job. The cheapest pond would probably be 2x4 or 4x4 lumber with a pond liner, but then I hear good things about the rubber liner that has recently been discussed.

Jeff,

My condolences go out to you man...... You are doing one of THE most stand up things I've ever heard of. I have nothing but respect for you.

If you have ANY questions whatsoever we are all here to help. I have a decent sized indoor pond myself (around 1K gallons) with rays in it. Mine is made from landscaping brick since I rent my house, I have to be able to move it, and with all the flakey friends I have I can really only count on myself, so I can move my entire pond with only the help of me, myself, and I. I built my own filter from a rubbermaid ag tub. IF you need any advice whatsoever just say so.... I'd be glad to walk you through how I built mine.... There are a few things I'd change but for the most part I am VERY happy with it, and it was able to keep my pond clean with 13 rays in it..... If pics would help just say the word.

Good luck man...... I applaud you.
