Want To Build, indoor pond in basement

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my bro gave me another idea, what if i use wood (4"x4"x8'), to make a 8'x4'x3' pond, then use those concrete backer boards, screw it up good, caulk the joints and tile it and grout it using cement :)
OR
Use bricks (i dont knwo the price of a mortar brick cant find it online) and then use mortar to make a 1/2inch thick plaster on the walls... lets say i had to sell my house i could use a sledge lol

get a 300 gallon rubbermaid container

Apart from what has already been pointed out, would you take a chance to use a pool liner, as they are often treated with fungicides and algecides during manufacture. They are not necessarily the fish-safe. A tarp can be useful as a substrate for a liner to protect against fragments, the screw heads and sharp corners. Polyethylene sheeting become very brittle when it is used as a "liner", IMO I doubt it would last six months with no ventilation.

There a few things that could be used for a linner. For example my brother n law make his pond useing a water bed matress. Been up an running with fish for over 5 years. I see them all the time on c.l. a dime a dozzen. lol

Not sure how u mean by useing brick or concrete. Will this be the outside or inside or the pond??? brike and concrete can cause huge swing in ph when used.

Yes i want to build an indoor pond in my basement 8'x4'x4'... (i dont know if this will work or not)
I have been researching material/prices and the cheapest way to make it is as flows

2x sheet of Plywood 1/2"x4'x8' (cut in 4 pieces fits perfectly) @ $11.79/sheet = $23.58
9x 2"x3"x8' Studs Whitewood (for support along the side of the ply wood) @ $1.35 = $12.15
NO BASE (rest on carpet floor, which rests on concrete, which rests on the earth) @ $0
2x heavy duty tarp 16'x20' (will fit the lenght of pond inner total 16' and width is 12') @ $22 = $44

Total cost of LUMBER ONLY (@ homedepot online prices)= $79.73

(i didnt find out screws and possibly rope to hold tarp to lumber through grommets)

OK what do you guys think? Am concerned about water evaporation, and how the moisture may affect my house cause its all wood? what do you think? PROS and CONS and PROBLEMS !PLZ. TX

I'd remove any carpet near where the pond is going to go...unless you want mold to grow when your fish splash or if your pond decides to leak
